Do you see the navigator to your lower right?  It is below the side bar menu.  In the navigator you can go to your class folder and find your name.  This is your own wiki page.  Go to this page to to share your thoughts about nature and to do some writing about our project.  We will learn how to use this in class.   Before you go to your page let's look at some ideas for what you could write on this space that is just for you.

Here are some ideas for what you could write about on your own page in this wiki.  Be creative on your page. Do you like the Cool Text header I have on this page that says "Nature Writing"?  You can go there and create your own cool page title. Do you want to add drawings or photographs related to raptors and  birds of prey?   Mrs. Haninger will show anyone how to add pictures, color and other fun things to your wiki page.

Check out this web site called Naturewriting for Readers and Writers.

You will see many great examples of people who have kept journals about nature and other kinds of Naturewriting.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Create a vocabulary list of terms about raptors.  Put your list and definitions in a table.  Mrs. Haninger or your teacher will help you with the table.
  2. What do you wonder about raptors and birds of prey?
  3. How many adjectives can you think of that describe your assigned raptor?  Put this list and a sentence with each adjective in a table.
  4. Write a haiku poem about raptors.
  5. Explore the work of other nature writers.  Here are some other famous writers who loved nature.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Henry David Thoreau

Rachel Carson

Annie Dillard

Susan Fennimore Cooper     Rural Hours by Susan Fennimore Cooper

Jean Craighead George

John Muir

6.  Do you like to draw?  Check out paintings and drawings by John Audubon and then try to create your own drawing.  We will scan it and you can add it to your wiki page.

7.  Come back to this page when you need inspiration.  We will add ideas for you as we find them.
